NASA Unveils Artemis II Launch Schedule, Including Canadian Astronaut Jeremy Hansen
NASA has revealed the potential launch dates for the Artemis II mission, which will feature Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen. The agency has pinpointed several two-hour launch windows, commencing on February 6th and extending until the end of April. This mission marks a significant milestone as it will be the first crewed journey to the moon since 1972 and Hansen's inaugural space mission.
Hansen, a 49-year-old resident of London, Ontario, will become the first non-American to venture beyond low Earth orbit. The Artemis II mission will utilize the Orion spacecraft, named 'Integrity' by its four-person crew, which will orbit the moon and then return to Earth over a span of approximately 10 days.
This mission signifies the first crewed flight for the Orion spacecraft, and officials have cautioned that delays are a possibility. The Artemis I mission, which was uncrewed, encountered technical challenges and adverse weather conditions, leading to three postponements before its successful launch in November 2022, lasting 25 days.
NASA has indicated that the spacecraft's rollout to the launch pad could commence as early as this weekend. This development was initially reported by The Canadian Press on January 12, 2026.
The Artemis II mission holds immense significance, not only for NASA but also for Canada, as it showcases the nation's growing involvement in space exploration and the potential for future collaborations with international partners.
