During LIV Golf's media week in South Florida, DeChambeau was direct about his commitment, stating, "I'm contracted through 2026, so excited about this year." Rahm echoed the sentiment, expressing his focus on LIV Golf and his hopes for his team to achieve success. Smith, in a statement to Golf Digest, reinforced his dedication to LIV Golf.
But here's where it gets controversial... The PGA Tour announced the 'Returning Member Program,' a pathway for LIV Golf players to rejoin the PGA Tour. This program targeted Koepka, Rahm, DeChambeau, and Smith, among others. The program allows players who have won a major championship or the Players Championship between 2022-2025 to play on the PGA Tour in 2026. The transfer window opened and closed before the start of LIV Golf's 2026 season.
Koepka's departure from LIV Golf, citing a desire to spend more time with family, set the stage for his return to the PGA Tour through this new mechanism. He's set to make his first start at the Farmers Insurance Open at the end of January.
DeChambeau and Smith have been with LIV Golf since the summer of 2022, while Rahm joined in 2024. Rahm has already made a significant impact, securing two consecutive season-long individual crowns, with his team, Legion XIII, winning the team title in 2025. Smith's Ripper GC won the team competition in 2024, and DeChambeau's Crushers took home the trophy the year prior.
LIV Golf is making a significant change for the 2026 season, moving to 72 holes for the first time in its history. This adjustment is aimed at meeting the requirements of the Official World Golf Rankings, which could allow its players to earn ranking points.
