Lane Hutson, a former Boston University (BU) athlete and current high-scoring defenseman for the Montreal Canadiens, made a special appearance at Agganis Arena on Friday night. He was there to support his alma mater and his younger brother, Cole Hutson, a Washington Capitals prospect and BU's leading scorer. Lane wore his brother's number 44 jersey during the Hockey East conference game against the Maine Black Bears, which the Terriers won 3-2 in overtime. Lane, 21, was able to attend due to the NHL's pause for the 2026 Winter Olympics. The Canadiens are currently second in the Atlantic Division with a strong 32-17-8 record, and Lane has contributed 58 points (10 goals, 48 assists) in 57 games. This may be a return of the favor, as Cole, 19, attended Game 3 of last year's playoff series between the Capitals and Canadiens, wearing a Habs sweater. Cole provided the primary assist on Jack Murtagh's goal early in the second period, finishing with an assist, five shots on goal, and three blocked shots. Since returning from the 2026 World Juniors with Team USA, where he suffered a scary head injury, Cole has played in 10 games for the Terriers. His production has slowed, with only five points (1 goal, 4 assists) in those games. However, he has now recorded points in back-to-back games for the first time since early December, firing five or more shots on goal in both games. The Terriers are gearing up for the 2026 Beanpot championship on February 9, where they will face their rivals, the Boston College Eagles. This game promises to be an exciting showdown, with both teams vying for the top spot.
